Film Preview: Caught in Flight

Put together Naomi Watts (amazing as both characters in Mulholland Drive) and Oliver Hirschbiegel (Director of Downfall) in the same movie wouldn't necessarily make you think it was about Princess Diana. But the news released today is that Naomi Watts beat off competition from the likes of Keira Knightley and Jessica Chastain. Thus continuing the ever growing trend of hiring American actors and actresses to play English roles, surely it would be easier to hire one of the many great leading British actresses as for starters they won't have to hide their accent so much?

I'm a big Naomi Watts fan so I won't be complaining too much about this but it is a massive task to portray somebody who is loved so much by this country. Without doubt the Daily Mail will hate it unless Princess Diana is shown as literally the great person to have ever graced this planet with her presence but joking aside it's a difficult role to fill. It has the same issues that The Iron Lady has in terms of following the life of somebody so embedded in the nation's conscience, lets hope it's a really good movie and not just a really good performance by the lead actress.
